Adult children talk politics with mom on Mother's Day calls

By the time I had heard from the five Kirchmeier siblings for Mother's Day, I had a very new understanding of where they think this country is headed.

The one subject they all agreed on? The public school system is seriously underfunded across the country, especially stated from those of us in Florida and Seattle, Wash. The suspension rate of VPK's is nothing to be proud of either.

The men were divided on whether we should reinstate the draft, insisting that Iraq would never have happened if we had a draft, that women should not be among the fighting ranks, and how do we restore pride in the country when no one has any equity in these days?

They differ politically, but all felt we were in for a serious shake-up in the Republican Party. They had fond memories of Ike and Reagan. They agreed what was needed was a Senate and president of the same party.

When it came to food, they are great fishermen, living near good waters and have small boats.

As they retire, the Social Security system and Medicare have become more important to them, but they know their mother needs both and a few cousins especially.

They were pleased I had an alarm system in case I fell, that the Handy Bus allows me to give up driving and still get around, that I am still teaching Creative Writing at H2U, and Adult Sunday School at Trinity UMC .
