Thief stole Bernie sign but not strong political views
On Friday someone "removed" my Bernie Sanders sign. Someone so un-American that they do not believe in my constitutional right to freedom of speech.
Corporations have free speech now, thanks to Citizens United. Translate that as "Corporations United" as polls show 60-plus percent of all Americans would vote to see it repealed.
Corporate freedom of speech means unlimited campaign contributions to favorite candidates; mine was only a small sign in my front yard.
I suspect it was a Donald Trump supporter, celebrating Trump's almost certain victory for the Republican nomination. But before he or she can cast their vote, perhaps some truths will come to light.
When Trump closed his casinos in Atlantic City, thousands of jobs were lost. From casino employees to caterers, private contractors who did construction work, various other concessions that had contracted with his big casinos, most were never paid.
Consequently, many small businesses also failed. Casinos are known as "cash cows" for a reason, as even in the worst of economic times, people will spend their last dollar hoping to get lucky. How does one bankrupt a casino? With very bad management. Consider this:
Trump's casinos could just as easily represent America.
Do we really want to gamble? "Take a chance" on "The Donald?" Could it be that Trump and his corporate cronies may take our country down like his casinos?
Should we ignore global warming, isolate ourselves from three quarters of the globe, "spin the roulette wheel" on social services, disenfranchise hard-working middle and under-class Americans, "roll the dice" on Social Security, Medicaid and Medicare, and give the corporations an even tighter choke hold on the democratic process? I vote no.
So, whoever you are, welcome to the Bernie sign. I just hope it makes you think. Bon chance!
