Manatee County gets ample revenue; vote against sales tax idea

I have read several opinions and editorials on the recommendation of a half-cent sales tax increase. I think the tax should be voted down.

Hundreds of homes are built in Manatee County each year, adding a hefty increase in property tax revenue; and with each home being occupied, more people are paying sales tax.

I think more attention should be given to how the school system spends monies and how local government agency's approve retirement benefits. I don't know of any private business that retires workers after 20 years of service.

With the current longevity, we can be paying as high as three to four employees benefits with only one employee still on the job. We also have a huge problem with employees "double dipping" in different government retirement jobs.
