Manatee County must explain development approvals while water restrictions exist

0325_BRLO_growth
Water from Lake Manatee flows from the gates of the dam into the spillway at the Manatee County Water Treatment Plant. Officials at the plant have developed a new way to treat water for taste and odor using granules of activated carbon filters and naturally occurring bacteria found in surface water.GRANT JEFFERIES/Bradenton Herald File Photo gjefferies@bradenton.com

In the April 29 Herald there was an article about the Fort Hamer Bridge construction. In that article it was mentioned that 23,000 new homes have been approved, or approval is being sought, for the Parrish/North River area.

I have a question for any of the county commissioners, or anyone in the county planning department, or anyone from the water department, as follows: If we have enough water to support 23,000 more homes, why do we have water restrictions?

Who is fooling whom? Please explain this to me. Curious minds want to know.

Curious minds also want to know why county impact fees were reduced in 2009! Were any other businesses in the county given breaks that the developers were given due to the recession? I think not!

Always remember, developers are in business to make m.o.n.e.y and they care nothing about water supply or traffic congestion.

County commissioners are in business to spend m.o.n.e.y -- your tax money!

I rest my case.
