Leave Braden Woods alone; develop homes elsewhere

I read, with a heavy heart, the article in Sunday's paper regarding the residents of Braden Woods banding together to fight a proposed development in the wooded area behind them. I felt sorry for them, knowing all too well the sadness of losing beautiful woods.

Then reading what Ethel Carter said about the disappearance of the quails brought the whole situation to a personal level. I have lived off of Upper Manatee River Road for 40 years. We also enjoyed the wildlife. Deer, fox, bobcats and quail. We would watch the quail every evening heading into the woods. First daddy, then mommy followed by the babies, all in a row.

When did they disappear? Was there a day we saw them and the next day they were gone? I didn't realize how much I missed them until I read the article.

Please, Mr. Pat Neal, consider the legacy you are leaving Manatee County and its people. Go somewhere that is already ruined. There are plenty of places to chose from.
