These horses are not spooked by aviation noise, even from airport

Our daughter lives on a farm surrounded on three sides by the Dayton, Ohio International Airport. She has several horses and gives riding lessons at an outdoor arena. The barns and pasture are on a direct line with the north-south runway.

She puts the horses out in the pasture on most days. When a large, noisy jet comes in for a landing from the north, it is just above the barns and pasture. The noise doesn't bother the horses; they just keep grazing.

She said the only time they notice anything is during the annual air show when there are many planes flying and once in a while a "boom." They will stop doing anything for a few seconds and then go back to grazing.

I ask about lessons and she said the rider continues on course, but she has to stop with instructions because of the loud noise.

Recently they had helicopters searching for marijuana, and they were flying directly over the horses and it didn't bother them.
