We read and hear many reports regarding all sorts of criminal activity and countless other evil and depressing things via TV, the newspaper, and other sources.

However, it is always refreshing to see uplifting stories about nice things that people do to help others and animals, etc. Thankfully, there are a lot of folks who often go above and beyond when the need arises. I truly believe the Lord is watching over us.

I was pleased to read in the April 9 Bradenton Herald about Rep. Vern Buchanan's "Legislator of the Year" award from the U.S. Humane Society for his concern regarding the inhumane treatment of animals. For many years I have read and heard about countless numbers of animals in the U.S. and also in countries around the world which have been and are being cruelly abused in factory farms, miscellaneous entertainment events, neglected and/or abandoned pets, and several other heartbreaking situations too numerous to go into detail in this letter.

I have never met Mr. Buchanan and I don't know anything about his political opinions per se, but based on his efforts to help animals, he seems to be a very caring person.
