Terrorists view Gitmo as a place to rest up from battle fatigue
Terrorists view Gitmo as a battle fatigue rest area
It seems that this administration's assertion that Guantanamo is a jihadi recruiting tool may in fact be absolutely true, but not in the way the U.S. press would have us believe -- in fact, the complete opposite!
So how about this scenario: Whilst in Africa recently, I listened to an interview carried out in bushman lingo, with all those "clicks/clacks," on a boondocks radio station.
From what I could understand, it seems that the various al Qaeda/al-Shabaab networks encourage any terrorist with "battle fatigue" to endeavor being sent to Guantanamo, as the facilities and amenities are simply superb -- free medical and dental, free food, freedom of religion, TV, soccer, etc. and importantly, secure from any enemy; no expenses spared, and all on the American taxpayer to boot!
However, it has become a little difficult of late, as rather than take any prisoners of war with the embarrassment of having to actually use Guantanamo, this administration has taken to "nuking" by drone persons of interest; they mentioned 5,000 killed to date, some being civilians and even families. They were not sure of this count, as the U.S. military is very "tight lipped" about this project, hence very little intelligence is collected.
The interview went on to mention that a well-placed call to a member of the executive (after a terrorist is well rested) will get the prisoner released to a "keeper" country, again at American expense. From there, he/she can then journey back to the Middle East and rejoin the fray.
Bottom line was that the top jihadists are certainly against shutting down Guantanamo, just in case they themselves might end up as POWs, in which case it would definitely be their destination of choice. Waterboarding was considered infinitely preferable to a drone; at least they lived to complain about torture!
