Manatee County's private animal rescues focus on money, not pets
I am currently trying to adopt a dog I had rescued on Feb. 7. She was taken to Animal Services shelter in Palmetto. They knew I would adopt her and told me on Feb. 12 I could pay $95 to adopt her.
Well, Nate's Place Retail & Adoption Center in Bradenton took her from that shelter, knowing I would adopt her. They even took my information with them. Their adoption rates are $200!
I called the lady at the rescue and tried to tell her my story behind this dog and she told me "don't bother telling me your story, it does not matter, you would still need to come in and pay the $200 fee."
Her knowing I would have adopted that dog at the shelter, she still took the dog to that shelter, all because she knew she'd get $200. This is all about the money and not about the dog's well-being in a forever loving home.
This has been a battle ever since. All I tried to do was give the previous owner a chance to claim the dog.
This issue needs to be addressed due to the fact that rescues are more concerned about money than a lost animal's well being! I could have taken her in from the shelter and had her in a home on Feb. 15.
They are also giving her more shots and putting her through more processes to upset her than just let the dog be in a forever loving home.
