Stop legislation prohibiting local governments from adopting fracking bans
State Rep. Ray Rodriguez and his esteemed cohorts in Tallahassee have pushed through House Bill 191. This bill prohibits local governments from banning high-pressure well stimulation, known as fracking. Large volumes of chemicals, water and sand are high-pressured into the ground to recover oil and gas.
This bill has been bought by the oil and gas industry ... no surprise there. Over a half a million, that we know of. The oil and gas companies do not tell the downside of fracking. This bill will open the door for other sites, not just around Naples.
Out of 61 counties, 26 have opposed fracking. Out of 282 cities, 41 have opposed. It will require more than this to stop greed and ignorance.
Does Florida really need or want this? More people, more highways, polluted water, intolerable noise 24/7, earthquakes, not to mention the unknown effects on human health. What will be the long-lasting effects on the environment in this beautiful and unique state?
Please, google the pros and cons on fracking and do not stop there. Let your elected state officials know this is not good for Florida. Your state senator is your only hope for stopping this.
