Manatee County school board wrong to mull rehiring scandal-tarnished ex-employing

Last week I read that the Manatee school board is planning to bring back a former employee, Debbie Horne. This same paper has published several articles regarding Ms. Horne's actions in investigating the Rod Frazier scandal at Manatee High School in recent years.

If Horne resigned to avoid prosecution, then she should not even be applying for a job in the district. This was part of the legal agreement.

Why this or any board would even consider rehiring anyone who was involved in such a scandal as the one involving this former coach is beyond me. Reports in this paper continue on about pending and open law suits. Is it throwing good money after bad?

As a taxpayer who does not have children in school, most of my taxes are for the education of children. The best investment we can all make as residents and taxpayers is in a good school system. We want our children and grandchildren to come back to Manatee, find jobs and raise their families.

Enough of our tax money has gone to people who did not have the best interest of our students. To rehire any of those people would only open the door for the same behavior again.
