Traffic light, not roundabout at busy, high-speed intersection in East Manatee

The other day we read Howard Kaplan's letter to the editor about putting a traffic circle at the dangerous intersection of Rye Road and State Road 64, and my husband thought I was writing again.

I have written the editor and the county commission so may times addressing this issue. I keep asking them to come out and spend time at the intersection to see what we are talking about.

Mr. Kaplan stated he has spent four years watching the traffic increase. We have been here 11 and are amazed at how the area has grown; all this is to our benefit and we see more progress coming.

But the Florida Department of Transportation and county commissioners all need to get their heads out of the sand and put a traffic light there. Give up the idea of a traffic circle being the answer! It is a danger.

Orange-filled trucks travel 70-plus mph from Myakka and don't slow down. The turbulence they create passing at this intersection could knock you over.

With more construction on SR 64 and Lorraine Road, and with all the entrances to other properties east and west of Rye Road, we need a light!

Manatee County has a habit of spending tax money on roads and then redoing them again and again to get them right.

Let's all join in and vote for a traffic light and do it right the first time.
