Curb gun violence, teach respect at all grade levels
Several readers have written about guns being used to kill someone we hate or disagree with, or smiled at us wrong, or we just wanted to kill.
Some take the NRA position that guns are not the problem. We have to be surprised that they don't get holsters like in the Old West. Oops! Now they have them again. They want lawlessness?
Or, let's do as the president wants, make everyone register if they have a gun so the government can keep track of them and get rid of them altogether, like every dictator does. After all, we have the lawmakers to carry out our demands and authority.
What is the answer? Simple. In all schools, from kindergarten to high school, teach every child "Thou shall not kill!" Love your enemies, pray for those who persecute you or mistreat you. Respect the rights of others, even if they are stupid or not, wrong or not. Pray for all to see the light and learn how we treat others.
Teach this in every home by example. Do good to everyone and teach that we do not kill or hurt others, especially not family and real friends. Respect them all.
