Obama executive orders wrong way to 'change' laws

Tears flow down President Barack Obama's face as he speaks in the East Room of the White House in Washington, Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2016, about steps his administration is taking to reduce gun violence. Also on stage are stakeholders, and individuals whose lives have been impacted by the gun violence.

A challenge to the readers of the Jan. 6 Bradenton Herald's letters to the editor. Two letters appear side by side -- one written by a supporter of "changes" in our gun laws and the other promoting Christianity. Please read them both very carefully, digest them, and make your choice about how you think the government of our United States is supposed to work.

I was always taught that it was the job of our Congress to make or change laws. Why does this president wait until the recess of Congress to make his executive orders to "change" our laws?

I see nothing wrong in trying to improve a bad situation, but I don't think this is the way to do it. Please do not play with our Second Amendment or our Constitution in general.
