Open carry of guns will take us back to Wild West

AP

Once again state legislators are going to try to legalize the open carry of firearms on the state's university campuses, and, of course, the special interest groups like the NRA support the loosening of gun restrictions across the state. It's what the NRA does.

If this is passed, it is only going to make it easier for people to shoot each other. The fraternal order of police and most members of the Florida Sheriff's Association have consistently opposed open carry, noting that it makes an officer's job more difficult to sort out the good guys from the bad guys in the midst of a chaotic crime scene if everybody is openly packing heat.

State universities, police agencies, school presidents, and faculty groups all have pleaded with Tallahassee not to make it easier to bring weapons on campus. If this is passed, it will only spread.

Singapore has some of the lowest crime rates in the world. They have the second lowest murder rate in the world; only 16 people were murdered with a population of 5 million. If you are caught with a gun, you will be sentenced to death by hanging. The same for selling drugs. No trial, just death. What a great law.

Why can't the U.S. take some lessons from other countries? Why does the U.S. have to be No. 1 in many categories?

Of course, the U.S. is No. 1 when people are killing each other with hand guns. Do I really want to be standing in line next to some Rambo when all I'm trying to do is order my Egg McMuffin?

Back in the western days, men wore guns. Then we became civilized, but now we are going back to those days.
