Rushing motorists threaten pedestrians at Manatee County intersections

1009_BRLO_roads
Traffic moves through the 15th Street East and 301 Blvd. east intersection. FDOT is looking to make multimodal improvements to the worn two-lane road 15th Street East corridor. GRANT JEFFERIES/Bradenton Herald gjefferies@bradenton.com

For whatever reason, people seem to be in a very big hurry these days.

It is not safe for people who are walking and need to cross the street at dangerous intersections. To name a few: 53rd Avenue West at 14th Street West, and Cortez Road and 14th Street West.

Every day I cross 53rd at 14th and say a silent prayer while I do so. I wait for the walk signal to turn green and take a quick look and walk as fast as I can. I will very soon be 80 and can't move as fast as I once did.

But it doesn't help people who don't watch for me. I do not own a car because I can't afford one. So please don't run me over until I can get one -- I hope in the near future.

I also think that people on bicycles are at risk.
