I would like to take this very belated opportunity to thank Golden Corral for the free dinners given to veterans on Veterans Day. It was scheduled for 5-9 p.m. Due to a doctor's appointment we weren't able to get there until 5 p.m.

I thought for sure we would have to stand in a long, long line before getting in. Imagine my surprise when we pulled up to the one on Cortez Road and there were but a few people in line.

I found out later that earlier there was a long line, even wrapping around the building. So the good people at Golden Corral opened the doors early so that the veterans and their spouses wouldn't have to stand for a long period of time because as we know a lot of our veterans have trouble standing even for a short time.

Due to space limitations, we were asked to share a table with another couple. We were fortunate enough to be seated with a nice couple from New Jersey, Wilbur and Helen. We had a nice talk, shared stories of service and enjoyed the meal. The service was superb and the food delicious as always.

I would also like to thank Cortez Road Golden Corral for letting the DAV Chapter 18 hold a fundraiser to help our veterans. We collected over $2,500 that will be put to good use in helping our local veterans.
