I would like to give a special "shout out" to both Ed Chiles and John Horne for what they did for local veterans on Veterans Day. By offering free and discounted dining, they showed the kindness and veneration that every American should exhibit to those who have served, and currently are serving and defending our liberty.

Kudos to Ed and John and their respective staff members for participating in this show of respect. I am sure it was not inexpensive.

Publix also deserves a great deal of credit for offering a 10 percent discount on Veterans Day.

As a veteran, I want to extend my thanks and gratitude to all the businesses and individuals who recognize how important the defenders of this country were, and are, to the freedoms that we now enjoy. God bless America.

Dr. Warren Simonds
