In Janiya Thomas death case, investigators failed and should be fired
I'm outraged and can't finish reading Friday's paper after seeing the front page of the paper, "Worker's emails: Janiya 'dead for a long time'." A "supervisor" email states, "we took all the right steps ..." Seriously?
I guess taking the "right steps" is more important than child safety -- or one's conscious.
The lead investigator said, "I feel I should have done more but I didn't know what else to do." Really? Sorry, but you're in the wrong line of work.
Working in Child Protective Services is one tough job. Not many are cut out for it nor can tolerate it for long. Personnel turnover is an issue in any CPS agency.
News alert to CPS and the sheriff's office: When an ongoing investigation is underway, and CPS and the sheriff's office can't find a child, the case should be treated as an "Amber Alert" emergency.
The mother called all the shots in this case, and CPA and the sheriff's office were compliant. The "steps" were wrong as were the decisions of the personnel involved.
This heart-wrenching case was avoidable and everyone who was associated with it should be fired.
