Good guys with open-carry guns would hinder crime

gjefferies@bradenton.com

I did my home work to find out what mass shootings Pam Cronin of Bradenton was referring to in her Oct. 31 letter ("Open carry of firearms is a terrible idea for Florida").

Yes, in 2015 the state of Florida had 12 killed and 29 wounded between Miami and Ocala. This is not a "mass shooting" in the state of Florida, and people who think we should not have guns for self-protection will use anything to try and get our Legislature to keep us from having a gun.

How are the cops supposed to know who the bad guy is if everyone is wearing a gun? When a cop shows up to a shooting where a lot of honest law-abiding citizens are standing around with guns on their hips, staring down at the bad guy they just killed, the cop will know who the bad guy is and who the good guy is -- once the cop gets control of the situation.

FBI crime statistics show that law-abiding citizens save a life 2 million times per year with a gun.
