A possible pitfall in college campus open carry of guns
Could the following be a newspaper article in the not-too-distant future?
AP. Any Town, Some State. In the aftermath of last week's mass shooting at Any Town College, it's been speculated that the two gunmen who fired on students in the packed auditorium escaped capture by exiting through separate doors after dropping their handguns and removing fake beards and ATC sweatshirts.
Apparently with arms raised, they joined other students on the quad and were led away by law enforcement personnel. The perpetrators have not yet been apprehended.
ATC has a student population of 1,450, approximately 78 percent of which is estimated to open carry firearms to class. Republican-controlled Some State passed the open carry law last year.
The final forensics report stated that 387 shell casings were collected. Autopsies determined that the two gunmen killed nine students and wounded 31, six critically. A total of 22 were killed (16 wounded) in the crossfire by students trying to stop the gunmen.
Reacting to cell phone calls from within the auditorium, police and state SWAT team members killed four male students, all bearded and wearing ATC sweatshirts, who where in the hallways amidst the chaos with their guns drawn.
Some State GOP leaders, backed by the NRA, stated that the tragedy would have been avoided had the other 22 percent of the student body been armed.
