Next GOP House speaker should embrace climate change

AP

Now that John Boehner is leaving his position as speaker of the House and second successor to the president, the Republican Party is looking for new leadership.

I wish to recommend the following:

Reps. Carlos Curbelo, Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, Chris Gibson, Ryan Costello, Bob Dold, Mike Fitzpatrick, Richard Hanna, Patrick Meehan, David Reichert, Elise Stefanik, and Frank LoBiondo.

Those 11 representatives, who lead by example, recently co-sponsored a House resolution declaring that Congress should act on climate change. Their resolve indicates to me they have a firm grasp of the obvious and see the importance of acting to save life on our planet.

The priority of survival in the thinking of other Republican House members, including some with advanced seniority, is not easy to determine.

Out with the old and in with the new needs to have additional meaning this holiday season.
