GOP the un-governing party in uncompromising stands
Our two-party system recognizes that in a large, diverse country which spans a continent differences of opinion are the natural state of political discourse.
However, the American people depend on the two parties to reach compromise and move the national agenda forward. This trust is undermined when one of those two political parties denigrates the very institutions of governance and seeks to shrink "the government" to a size ensuring its dysfunction.
Republicans control both houses of Congress yet little gets done. The party has threatened to shut down the government over Planned Parenthood, an organization which saves lives, yet Republicans blithely accept the slaughter of children and college students and church-goers, saying "stuff happens" because of gun violence. That is, this party has more concern over the fate of the unborn than the born.
The death of four Americans in Benghazi receives laser-like attention and taxpayer money while the victims of gun violence evinces a shrug ("stuff happens") and a passionate defense of the Second Amendment regardless of the consequences of gun violence on public safety.
This is a party that tells a nation built by immigrants to wall itself in and expel its undesirables. Perhaps the GOP would replace the Statue of Liberty's torchlight with a giant AR-15 to ward off "intruders."
As our Pacific states burn and our Atlantic coast states drown, the Republican Party denies man-made global climate change and the incontrovertible scientific evidence that has warned the world of the consequences of sea level rise and greenhouse gases.
The Republican Party is the un-governing party and, as House Speaker John Boehner has found out, un-governable. How much longer can the American people afford a do-nothing, know-nothing and "no-nothing" party to un-govern our great nation?
