Allow alligators to be hunted without license

I was saddened to read about Rachael Lilienthan losing her arm to an alligator (Herald, Sept. 27). It was so awful for her and the brave ones who helped her. I then read another article where a college student was arrested on a felony charge for having an alligator hide drying in his yard.

Alligators are everywhere in the lakes and rivers here in Florida. They are over-populated. The felony law needs to be changed for killing an alligator without a license.

Alligators are as bountiful as the hogs are here in Florida, yet it is OK to kill the hog but not the alligator? Make folks buy a license and have open alligator seasons so these creatures won't get more out of control than they are now.

My elderly mother once thought she was going to pick up a branch in her back yard, which borders a small manmade lake. She reached down and saw the branch was an alligator.

Folks beware, alligators lurk in your waterfront property and at times they don't follow the rules like Rachael found out in a horrible way.
