President Trump is trying to sabotage the U.S. Postal Service | Letter to the editor

The blatant sabotaging of one of the most important government institutions in our country by this president is beyond appalling. The Post Office is a critical service to virtually every American. For President Donald Trump to say that he is going to block funding to prevent mail-in voting is wrong on so many levels, most importantly when it comes to the Nov. 3 election.

Widespread voter fraud is a myth in general, and mail-in voting is just as safe. Trump is clear that his reason for wanting to hamper mail-in voting is because it is likely to be used by Democrats rather than Republicans. How much more evidence do we need of true voter fraud? He says that we voted in WWI and WWII. True, but going to the polls in America did not jeopardize your life. And soldiers have voted by mail in every war since the Civil War. In fact, in WWII, the government provided federal ballots for soldiers whose state ballots did not arrive in time.

We rely on the U.S. Postal Service for so many things: medications, COVID-free shopping, and sending greeting cards. Right now, the most important is our right to vote safely.

The Post Office must be protected.
