Act now to protect the Post Office, your mail-in ballots | Letter to the editor

Forty-six states have been notified that many voters will be disenfranchised because of the Post Office’s inability to deliver mail in a timely fashion. That would seem to be a reason to add more staff and overtime hours. But under the leadership of President Donald Trump’s hand-picked postmaster general overtime is prohibited in spite of the fact that many employees have had to be quarantined in the past few months.

In fact, under the guise of redistributing the high-speed electronic sorting machines to more populated areas, he has fired those in leadership positions and has systematically removed and destroyed these high-speed machines. Each machine costs over $1 million and can sort tens of thousands letters and mail-in ballots a day. In the face of this blatant sabotagem Congress has gone home for three weeks.

Our elected legislators work for us and we must demand that they return to Washington immediately and do their jobs! It is up to us as citizens to contact Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer and Mithch McConnell and our Florida Congressmen every day to demand that they ensure the post office can do its duty and serve the public as we approach the November elections.

Please call or email our leaders until Congress reconvenes and stops Trump’s assault on the Post Office. There is no time to waste!
