Good Christians wear masks to slow the spread of COVID-19 | Letter to the editor

Greetings in Jesus’ name.

Last week I read an article in this paper in which a local pastor stated that he opposed face masks in church as one couldn’t sing while wearing one. I really hope that he was just repeating a false statement and not intentionally trying to mislead people.

I know that this false because I have worn a mask to church ever since it was reopened. I am able to sing, and be heard, as well as pray aloud, and praise or worship as I wish.

I am ashamed of my fellow Christians and preachers as we should be setting the right example. Jesus said we are to love one another. I wear a seat belt, as I feel sure the preacher does because it is the law even though it is restrictive and often uncomfortable. This only protects me. The mask protects those around me more than myself. I wear a mask to show my love for others. The Bible says in I John that if you say you love someone and show otherwise, you are a liar

I am not an expert on this, but from most of those in the medical field, even locally, state that masks are the best way to curtail the spread. Therefore, out of love I prefer my discomfort over possibly harming another. I’ll keep wearing a mask for the love of Jesus and pray that others will also.
