Holmes Beach officials should be ‘ashamed.’ Less parking hurts the ‘have-nots’ | Letter to the editor
Given the recent draconian parking restrictions implemented by Holmes Beach officials, a strong argument can be made that the new restrictions display a level of disenfranchisement toward our minority and low-income communities.
We who own property and those who rent property on the island enjoy a level privilege that many do not. The “have-nots” of our communities have every right to access the beautiful public beaches we all enjoy so much, however their only means of doing so is to drive to the island.
The newly implemented severe parking restrictions deny thousands of men, women and children of our surrounding communities the ability to access our beaches on a daily basis.
Holmes Beach officials should be ashamed of themselves.
