Turn Manatee public schools into WiFi hot spots for the community | Letter to the editor

Bravo to the Manatee School District for going the extra mile in providing computerized learning for students during this global coronavirus crisis.

Putting computers into the hands of the students and providing WiFi service is a brilliant step into the future. This is the only way that the teachers can safely stay in contact with their classes until the all clear is sounded on the pandemic.

Let’s hope that this policy will continue and be expanded in making every school everywhere a powerful local hot spot offering high speed access to educationally appropriate internet sites for everyone. The idea of 24/7/365 WiFi access at every school is long overdue and should be the norm from now on. The buildings are already there with the internet service in place so adding antennas to make it available to the community should be a relatively simple process.
