Socialist Sanders ‘wants to run our country into the ground’ | Letter to the editor

It’s disheartening to see that socialism is starting to become trendy in America.

Socialism is incompatible with democracy and freedom. Congressman Vern Buchanan’s instapoll showing that 30 percent of our residents support socialism is sickening, to say the least. I can’t stress enough that America is not ready for a President like Bernie Sanders who embraces socialism and wants to run our country into the ground.

America needs to stay vigilant and pay attention to countries like Venezuela whose economies have crumbled from the evils of socialism. Socialism wants the government to control more of your life, including your property, your money and your religion. Democrats don’t hide the fact that they want to run a giant government bureaucracy with massive tax increases, gun bans, free college, free healthcare, free everything and giving convicted felons and illegal immigrants access to government welfare programs.

Slowly but surely, the Democratic party is going to turn into the party of Karl Marx. British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher said it best: “The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people’s money.” I hope others here in America will learn an invaluable lesson about the dark side of socialism – and the value of freedom. With unemployment at a 50-year low and wages rising, it’s obvious that America needs to reject socialism and embrace democracy and freedom.
