Buchanan survey finds Democrats don’t know the horrors of socialism | Letter to the editor

I never miss taking Congressman Vern Buchanan’s weekly online surveys.

I was incredibly troubled to see that 34% of the respondents in this week’s poll said they had no problem supporting socialism. This should serve as a wake-up call to all Americans who love freedom and democracy. It seems that many Democrats have no idea about the horrors socialism and its left-wing sister, communism, inflicted on countries like Venezuela and the Soviet Union.

Forty million people were killed under Stalinism. These radical ideologies have failed everywhere and leave societies broken and impoverished. We need to start educating people about the evils of socialism and the benefits of living in a free society.

We the people tell the government what to do, the government does not tell the people what to do. Our founding fathers would be rolling over in their graves to know that a socialist is now the leader of the Democrat Party in America.
