Anti-Trump Republicans do have a choice in Florida’s primary. Vote Democrat | Letter to the editor
I have spoken to a number of friends and relatives who are registered Republicans or moderates registered “No Party Affiliation” (NPA) who do not want to vote for President Trump in November. They are hoping that the Democratic candidate will be someone for whom they can vote — not Bernie Sanders or Elizabeth Warren.
I admire their willingness to consider an alternative candidate and invite them to help choose a moderate Democrat, by registering as a Democrat just for the Presidential Primary Election. That primary will not be held until March 17, but they must act quickly because the deadline for registering to vote in that primary is Tuesday, Feb 18 — and Monday is a federal holiday.
To change their party affiliation, they can go in person to their Supervisor of Elections office on Thursday, Friday or Tuesday. Or they can download the Voter Registration Form from the Supervisor of Elections website, complete and sign it (using the same signature as the one on their drivers license) and mail it or hand carry it to the Supervisor of Elections office. If mailed, it must be postmarked on or before Feb 18 in order to be counted. They may also hand deliver it to the Department of Motor Vehicles office — but should receive assurances that it will be mailed in time to be postmarked by Feb 18.
For Republicans who are willing to take their chances on the Democrats’ selection a candidate they can support, they can express their dissatisfaction with Trump, by voting for another candidate or adding the name of a write -in candidate when they vote in the March 17 primary.
