Tragic rail wreck begs the question: Was it worth it?

AP file photo

Sometimes we have to ask ourselves, is or was it worth it? The tragic train wreck the other day is a good example. The price of several people killed, over 70 hurt and the monetary cost of over $181 million — for what, a train ride just “15 minutes faster!”

No wonder the railroad and our government are broke! Yes, progress is usually good, but we must learn to totally evaluate all cost and aspects of future progress.
