Congress should focus on ‘The People’s Budget’

A recent Associated Press article in the Bradenton Herald titled “GOP tax plan could offer little aid for many in middle class” summarized the findings of respected research organizations such as The Joint Committee on Taxation. The article noted that the tax plan’s primary beneficiaries would be wealthier Americans who would enjoy lower tax rates while some middle-class families would actually end up paying higher taxes.

In sharp contrast, “The People’s Budget — A Roadmap for the Resistance 2018” prepared by the Congressional Progressive Caucus is what a Congress devoted to the needs of the vast majority of the American people should be approving. It received 108 votes on a House roll call vote on Oct. 4. And if America votes blue in 2018, hopefully The People’s Budget will be a lot closer to being realized.
