Supreme Court presents huge opportunity for conservative GOP

The mid-term elections will quickly be upon us. Despite Republicans winning in special elections, the Democrats are fired up and are posed to challenge in the too-close-to-call states in the 2018 elections. That, and the 2020 election results, will have a huge impact on the Supreme Court.

With the talk of Justice Kennedy retiring and the possibility of Justice “Sleepy” Ginsberg following soon after, the Republicans have a huge opportunity to load the court with at least two more true conservative justices. Add Justice Thomas closing in on 70 and Justice Breyer, almost 80, there could be a quartet of justices for President Trump and the conservatives to replace.

I believe this will not happen unless President Trump wins a second term or, in the case he decides not run, a conservative president takes his place. Add that to the possibility the makeup of the Senate does not swing over to the Democratic side. Fast forward to an indecisive, divided and inept Republican party of swamp dwellers whose members still believe that their supporters are OK with the status quo, and you have the ingredients for a conservative disaster.

There exists the possibility of both Justices Ginsberg and Breyer holding back their retirement as long as possible. However, if the conservatives keep the White House and the Senate for another term, both will, by death or choice, in my opinion, not survive another four years.

The Republican leadership needs to stand unified and firmly support President Trump’s agenda and their own campaign promises, (something they’ve yet to do) otherwise the biggest prospect ever for decades of conservative legislation and legal decisions goes down the drain. If the establishment Republicans think there’s anger and activism pointed at them now, just let them squander this opportunity and see what the wrath of their support base does to them.
