School district forgot ‘One Life Matters’ with stranded child
I was appalled and saddened when I read the Bradenton Herald’s story about 7-year-old Lyla Gallo, who was dropped off after school at the wrong designation in a rainstorm.
There are a number of people at fault that should be held accountable.
The supervisor should have been assigned for the second day of school to make sure all the children got on the right bus.
Mike Barber said it might have been better if the driver had waited. Could the driver have communicated that Lyla was left alone and asked for further instructions? This was a serious lack of judgment by the driver and lacked compassion for a child of seven years.
Barber’s comment that 49,000 got home was impressive, but he failed to realize that ONE child and her family were traumatized by the whole situation. “ONE Life Matters.”
Too many excuses were made for what happened to Lyla. She must have been very afraid, confused and scared.
The system failed this little girl.
God Bless the Campbells who took her in and helped her. Their compassion did not fail Lyla.
