Why would God incur devastation on the innocent?
This is in response to James C. Foy’s letter about global warming. He said: “Global warming is not man-made.” This is an admission that global warming is indeed occurring.
He then said: “God has absolute control over the climate, and if we are experiencing global warming, I would say it is His will.” Why God would “will” environmental devastation upon his children is baffling, but if it is God’s “will,” who are we to argue, right? Is that Mr. Foy’s message?
Then he said: “Ultimately God is in charge of all adversity that comes our way. To deny His involvement contradicts His power and sovereignty.” Why God would want to be “in charge of” and “involved” in “adversity” when He’s more than capable of eliminating it is also baffling.
Next, he says: “The Lord may or may not be doing it.” But didn’t he say God “has absolute control over the climate?” I’m confused. Is this about the mischievous devil that God created but has no control of? To say “may or may not” is indicative of obliviousness. One who is oblivious cannot speak with authority. And then he says: “If God is, (intentionally causing climate change) it's because there is so much sin in the world.”
I guess that explains the Joplin tornado, Hurricane Katrina and all devastating earthquakes and tsunamis because there is so much “sin” in the world. Mr. Foy’s message is that God will incur death, suffering and devastation upon innocent men, women, children, babies and the unborn because of the “sin” of others as undeserved punishment. How interesting it is that God incurs or allows to be incurred such horrific sadness, death and destruction causing massive collateral consequences with total disregard for those who have done nothing to deserve it.
