TrumpNoCare, budget wipe out health care
“Trumpcare’s cruelty, reaffirmed.” That’s the accurate title of an excellent New York Times editorial dated May 27, 2017. The editorial examines two recent government documents: the House Republican health care bill and Trump’s budget. Major findings: Together these two would gut Medicaid by slashing it 45 percent by 2026.
The nonpartisan Congressional Budget has found that the House Republican health plan would make it impossible for millions of people with pre-existing conditions to buy health insurance. House speaker Paul Ryan and his colleagues are patting themselves on the back for lowering health-care premiums by taking away people’s access to medical services.
The reputable Tax Policy Center estimates that almost all of the tax cuts in the House Republican health plan would flow to the rich. The top 1 percent would take home an average of $37,200 a year, while people with middle-class incomes would get a puny $300. Trump’s budget provides a similar windfall for the rich at the expense of the poor and needy whose public protections will be torn away. A handful of moderate Republican senators is all that stands in the way of this horrendous assault on American health care. It is not too late to let our senators and congress persons know how we feel about TrumpNoCare and Trump’s budget.
