If not road construction, what is damaging homes?
I am writing this letter out of desperation. I feel the public should know what is being done to me.
The 44th Avenue connector is being built through my backyard. During construction, the earth-tamping machines sometimes made my whole house shake and vibrate like it was going to fall down.
Now I have cracks in my walls and my floors. One in the garage is a quarter-inch wide and you can see daylight through it. The county, the construction company and their insurance company admit I have damage but say it is not from road construction.
I am a 77-year-old widow on a fixed income. I don’t have the resources to fight these “giants.” It is a shame they can do this with no accountability.
This is a well-built, 2,500-square-foot home. I had a complete inspection when I bought the house. And a few years ago I had it sealed and painted from top to bottom.
Thus, when I received the report saying I had damage, they felt it wasn’t caused by the construction. I sat at my dining room table and cried.
It’s as if nobody cares!
It is shameful that the county and the construction company have free reign to do whatever they please with no repercussions.
Now I am finding out that all 10 houses that border the road have similar issues.
