The Manatee County School District is in a critical stage of progression. We, the voters, must ensure the right individuals are on our school board for the district to progress forward. Incumbent Dave Miner is not one of those individuals.

With a 300-word limit, I cannot possibly go through the entire chaotic mess of Miner’s history on the board. However, it says a lot when Miner’s fellow board members don’t even trust him enough to allow him to serve as their school board chair, despite his being the board’s vice chair twice. If they don’t trust him, why should we?

While I believe Mr. Miner cares about our schools, teachers and students, caring simply isn’t enough. A person serving on one of our county’s most important boards needs to possess the right temperament, stability and level-headedness to appropriately make decisions that affect many innocent lives. Miner has proven he does not hold these simple yet important qualities.

Miner claims he’s for the community, yet rarely replies when the community reaches out, and he doesn’t vote in the community’s favor unless it benefits him.

Miner’s challenger, Misty Servia, is proving she is for the community. Misty has been out in the community, gathering input into what the strengths and weaknesses are of the school district. Our community deserves a leader that will listen more, talk less and make the right decision the first time. That is Misty Servia.

Miner claims to be our “Watchdog.” Misty has put together a website “NotOurWatchdog,” which proves Miner has been far from our “Watchdog.” This factual website is what voters need to pay attention to and not to Miner’s silly “Watchdog, not Lapdog” slogan.

Our school board needs true leaders. Misty Servia is the vote to success. Please make the right choice.
