Upgrades for Historic Bridge Street, Bradenton Beach's signature spot

gjefferies@bradenton.com

Historic Bridge Street is poised for a batch of upgrades. Hooray for city officials. Besides important stormwater improvement, Bradenton Beach commissioners are looking at new landscaping, designer asphalt repaving, and repaving all the community redevelopment agency streets in downtown.

The city hopes to complete the $400,000 in renovations in time for the December grand opening of the Anna Maria Oyster Bar on the Bridge Street Pier, which will be a very welcome addition to this popular island avenue. Additional private development is in the works, too.

Since the tourist season now stretches across the entire year, there's no reason to avoid snowbird season. And officials will schedule drainage work in small sections at a time to limit disruptions, and repaving could be accomplished at night.

So don't hesitate to visit.
