The Sunshine Skyway Bridge continues to be closed in both directions to all vehicles Friday, the Florida Highway Patrol announced.

At 12:37 p.m. Thursday, FHP closed the Skyway Bridge to all traffic, and is urging drivers to use alternate routes.

Tropical Storm Hermine could strengthen into a hurricane before hitting the Florida Panhandle on Thursday, Bay News 9 is reporting.

Hermine is expected to make landfall as a hurricane in the Florida Big Bend area tonight. This would be the first Florida landfalling hurricane since Wilma in 2005.

It is important to remember most of the bad weather is well east of the center. Hermine is not a well-organized tropical system due to the wind shear. Tropical storm force winds expend out to 140 miles from the center.

There will be a threat of heavy rain in West-Central Florida, a Flood Watch remains posted until Friday evening. We think there could continue to be some heavy rain through Saturday morning as an onshore flow develops.
