Manatee County opens emergency evacuation shelters ahead of Milton. Here’s the list

Manatee County officials have opened several shelters ahead of Hurricane Milton’s landfall as a devastating storm.

Residents in levels A, B and C and those living in mobile homes and recreational vehicles are under mandatory evacuation orders. To find your evacuation zone, visit www.MyManatee.org/storm.

“This is a serious storm,” Jodie Fiske, the county’s public safety manager, said in a statement. “We need folks to take these evacuation orders seriously and get out of harm’s way.”

As of 12:15 p.m. Wednesday, roughly 10,000 people were staying at shelters, school district officials said. In a social media post, county officials said there was still “plenty of space” at each shelter.

Residents can register for transportation to a special needs shelter at MyManatee.org/needs.

The latest forecast from the National Hurricane Center has Milton making landfall around 1 a.m. Thursday morning as a Category 3 hurricane, meteorologists say.
