Bradenton and Manatee County could reach near record-high temperatures this week, but the humidity levels will prevent it from feeling too hot, forecasters say.

Later this week, daily temperatures are expected to be among the highest for a February day in the area since 1911.

The hot weather is part of a system that will affect most of the U.S.

National Weather Service Tampa Meteorologist Stephen Shiveley told the Bradenton Herald on Tuesday that a powerful high-pressure system is expected to cause record-high temperatures throughout much of the northeast and up into Washington, D.C.

Morning fog is expected on Wednesday as increased humidity in the air keeps temperatures moderate, with a high of 84 degrees forecast.

As we lose all humidity on Thursday and Friday, dry air and a light wind should cause temperatures to rise quickly above average for this time of year.

“Those are the days we expect inland areas to get close to or over 90 degrees,” Shiveley said. “It’ll be a little cooler along the coast on Anna Maria Island, likely in the low to mid-80s.”

The record high for Feb. 23 is 86 degrees in 2019. The forecast high for Thursday is 85 degrees, just a degree shy of the record.

The record high for Feb. 24, is 87 degrees in 2001. The forecast temperature is 86 for Friday.

“Both days Thursday and Friday we’re only forecasting one degree lower than what the record high would be for those days,” Shiveley said.

The record high for all of February is 90 degrees, set five years ago in 2018.
