19-year-old hurls rock at ICE vehicle as it hauls away his dad, Florida cops say
A 19-year-old threw a rock at an ICE vehicle, shattering the rear window, after seeing the federal agents arrest his dad, Florida police said.
The incident happened around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21, as Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the U.S. Border Patrol were conducting an operation at a convenience store on Village Parkway, Port St. Lucie police said in an Oct. 23 news release.
“While federal agents were making an arrest, 19-year-old Pasqual Velasquez Martin (the son of the arrestee) decided to throw a large rock at the occupied agent’s vehicle as it was driving by, shattering the rear back window,” police said. “Velasquez Martin fled the scene but didn’t get far, as multiple agents were in the area and took him into custody without incident. Thankfully, no officers or agents were injured.”
Velasquez Martin is charged with throwing a deadly missile into an occupied vehicle, which is a second-degree felony, authorities said.
“A witness stayed on scene to confirm Velasquez Martin was the individual who threw the large rock at law enforcement officers,” police said.
Police did not release details of why the suspect’s father was being detained.
Port St. Lucie is about a 110-mile drive north from Miami.
