Winning $2 million Powerball ticket is sold at a Publix in Florida. Here’s where
A Powerball player just missed a $67 million jackpot — but still won a life-changing prize in Florida.
The player bought a ticket that matched all but one number picked in the Sept. 15 drawing. Since the person spent an extra dollar on the Power Play option, their $1 million prize doubled to $2 million, results show.
The winning numbers: white balls 14-15-32-42-49, with red Powerball 1.
The lucky ticket was sold at the Publix grocery store on McGregor Boulevard in Fort Myers, a roughly 130-mile drive south from Tampa. The winner spent $3 on a Quick Pick ticket, meaning a lottery machine randomly chose at least some of the numbers, the Florida Lottery wrote on its website and in a news release.
The player has a lot to celebrate after their ticket matched all of the white balls picked in the drawing. The winner also was one number from scoring the jackpot prize, which stood at an estimated $67 million. Since no one hit the jackpot, the $2 million prize was the largest won in the country the night of the drawing, according to the Powerball website.
As of early Sept. 16, Florida lottery officials didn’t say whether anyone had claimed the big prize. In the Sunshine State, Powerball winners have about six months to cash in, rules show.
