14-year-old boy calls 911 to say he killed parents during fight, Florida cops say
A 14-year-old shot and killed his parents after a late-night argument, then he called 911 to turn himself in, Florida authorities said.
Trevor Lee is now charged with two counts of second-degree murder, according to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Michelle Cook said dispatch got a 911 call shortly after midnight on Aug. 4 from a 14-year-old reporting he had killed his parents.
Lee went on to say his mom and dad could be found at his home in Middleburg, and he had walked about a mile away to a church, where he would wait for law enforcement to take him into custody, according to the sheriff.
Deputies said they arrived at the church and arrested the 14-year-old, while another set of first responders went to the home and found two people dead from apparent gunshot wounds.
The parents have been identified as 44-year-old David Lee and 45-year-old Brandi Smith.
“It appears that there was some sort of domestic argument last night between Trevor Lee and his parents, and that this shooting culminated from that argument,” Cook said during a news conference.
Cook said the teen left the gun at the home, where it was recovered. For now, deputies believe the weapon belonged to the parents.
The investigation is ongoing.
Middleburg is about a 30-mile drive southwest from Jacksonville.
