Back half of vehicle tears off, lands in backyard during fatal crash, Florida cops say
A car split in half during a high-speed crash that killed the passenger, according to Florida police.
The sedan was traveling at a high speed on June 20 in Seminole when the driver lost control just before 10 p.m., according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.
The car left the road and hit a guide wire used to stabilize a utility pole, the report says. The car then slammed into a block wall and tore into two pieces.
The back end of the car kept traveling and hit a tree and two fences before landing in someone’s backyard, according to the report.
Photos from the scene show two mangled pieces of a car with twisted metal and debris.
Both the 26-year-old driver and a 30-year-old passenger were taken to a hospital, the report says. There was no one else in the car.
The passenger died of his injuries, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. He was not identified in the report.
The driver was seriously injured, according to the report. Neither occupant had been wearing a seat belt, police said.
Seminole is about 25 miles southwest of Tampa.
