Watch a police diver rescue a snapping turtle in ‘distress’ from a Florida canal

A snapping turtle’s strong jaws couldn’t help it make its way out of a mess in Florida.

According to a Facebook post from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office on Friday, a dive team training in a Cape Coral canal encountered the turtle that was caught up in a fishing line.

The turtle was “in distress,” said the post, not only just tangled up in the line but with a hook stuck in its mouth.

In video on the post entitled “Turtle-y great,” you can see the dive team member work to free the reptile.

The turtle received care at an area animal hospital, then will be transferred to the Clinic for Rehabilitation of Wildlife in Sanibel for “special treatment,” according to deputies.
