Florida COVID update on Monday: 4,797 cases and zero deaths added
Florida on Monday reported to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention 4,797 more COVID-19 cases and zero deaths, according to Miami Herald calculations of CDC data.
It’s possible that the CDC website has not updated to show new deaths because of the holiday weekend. The Florida Department of Health did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
In the past seven days, the state has added, on average, 113 deaths and 3,263 cases per day, according to Herald calculations of CDC data.
In all, Florida has recorded at least 3,609,643 confirmed COVID cases and 56,413 deaths.
Florida COVID-19 Vaccine Rate
The CDC’s Data Tracker did not update Monday because of the Columbus Day holiday.
About 12,505,089 eligible Floridians — 58.2% of the state’s population — had completed the two-dose series of either the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna vaccines, or received Johnson & Johnson’s single-dose vaccine, as of Saturday, the last time the data updated.
Vaccinations in South Florida and Manatee County
The CDC’s Data Tracker did not update Monday because of the Columbus Day holiday. As of Saturday, the last time the data updated, every Florida county’s level of community transmission remains high.
Here’s how many people have been fully vaccinated in South Florida, according to the CDC.
▪ In Miami-Dade County, about 1,997,531 people, or 73.5% of the county’s total population, are fully vaccinated.
▪ In Broward County, about 1,209,609 people are fully vaccinated, or 61.9% of the county’s population.
▪ In Palm Beach County, about 880,270 people are fully vaccinated, or 58.8% of the county’s population.
▪ In Monroe County, about 50,811 people are fully vaccinated, or 68.5% of the county’s population.
▪ In Manatee County, about 218,681 people are fully vaccinated, or 54.2% of the county’s population.
COVID-19 hospitalizations in Florida
The U.S. Department of Health & Human Services has not updated its COVID-19 inpatient and ICU beds dashboard since Saturday, possibly because of the holiday.
As of Saturday, there were 3,945 people hospitalized for COVID-19 in Florida, according to the dashboard, which compiled data from 259 hospitals. This continues a trend of decreasing hospitalizations.
COVID-19 patients take up 6.78% of all inpatient beds in the latest report. Of the people hospitalized in Florida, 1,081 people were in intensive care unit beds, according to data reported by 265 hospitals. That represents about 17.05% of the state’s ICU hospital beds.
Monday’s Miami-Dade County report said there were 363 COVID patients in the county’s hospitals on Sunday, a increase of 14 from Saturday. Of the 27 new COVID patients, 25 (92.59%) had not been vaccinated. Broward County’s Monday report said there were 365 COVID patients in the county’s hospitals, a decrease of 30 from the previous day’s report.
